It is the end of October and the weather in Santa Cruz is still like summer. As I sit here, I can see the ocean past Seabright Beach and off in the distance is the "island". Almost every day a tourist asks me "what island is that?" and I explain that it is no island, it is across the bay in Monterey. But the smart ass answers keep popping up in my head:
• It's Catalina, we bought it and towed it up here.
• It's Hawaii.
• It's Japan.
• It's Atlantis.
• It's Avalon from King Arthur's days.
